The stories told in the Freedom Gallery are the words of survivors themselves. As powerful as each story is to hear on its own, we know that the bravery it takes to put those words out into the world, the strength it takes to use a voice that was previously silenced, can never be fully expressed with words on a page alone. The power of portrait—seeing the woman voicing each story—was needed as a microphone for each survivor and brings the Freedom Gallery to life.
Further, "Redefine Worth" has been part of the Priceless vision from the beginning. Though "worth" was previously determined and warped by traffickers and abusers, the brave women sharing their stories in the Freedom Gallery either have learned or are in the process of learning and experiencing the hope that comes through the truth of these words: "You are priceless." It was with all of this in mind that an art collaboration like no other came to be through the talents of Grace Adams and Scott Spooner. |
We're grateful for the heart and eye of photographer and artist Grace Adams, who truly saw these women, heard their stories, honored them in presence and in portrait, all while protecting their identities and hearts through the process.
"I feel so honored to be a part of this collaboration with Scott Spooner and Priceless to honor survivors of sex trafficking and to bring awareness to this horrific form of modern day slavery... I have had the opportunity to photograph eight brave survivors of trafficking and hear their incredible stories... Because of the work Priceless is doing, these women have hope and the opportunity to build a new life. It is incredibly humbling and a huge responsibility to have a hand in giving them a voice in this way." - Grace Adams |

Scott applied his unique skill and talent to each photo in a creative collaboration with photographer Grace Adams. Scott's intentionality to highlight each brave woman in a beautiful way while connecting deeply with her story has elevated the gallery in such a beautiful and thought-provoking way. This creative collaboration by Scott and Grace beautifully amplifies the voice of each survivor through portrait. We are grateful for their artistry and the heart and commitment they put into this gallery.
"When I sat down to define my values and focus as an artist three things emerged in my mind, beauty, nature, and story. Being a part of the Freedom Gallery project with Priceless and Grace Adams line up in particular with both beauty and story. The redemption that speaks through these stories is beyond inspiring... Using gold leaf to partially disguise their features is a way of redefining worth by using a material known for thousands of years as valuable, beautiful, and precious. These stories need to be seen and known to provide hope for those who may have experienced the abuses of trafficking and as a call to end this injustice..." - Scott Spooner |
